For inequalities on a number line, what does it mean when a point is open or closed?

To graph an inequality on a number line, we need to make note of two things: the direction of the inequality and whether it is strict.

-1 ≥ z Observing the given inequality, we see that -1 is greater than or equal to all values of z. This means that the solution set lies to the left of -1 on a number line. Notice that z=-1 is a solution, so we mark this as a closed circle on the number line at -1.
