Exercise 3 Page 357

What is the formula for point-slope form?

Example Solution: y-1=1/3(x-5)

Practice makes perfect
An equation in point-slope form follows a specific format. y- y_1= m(x- x_1), In this format, m is the slope and the point ( x_1, y_1) lies on the graph of the line. We are given the point ( 5, 1) and the slope 13, so we have everything we need to create a point-slope form equation.
y-y_1=m(x-x_1)
y- 1= 1/3(x- 5)
Please note that there are infinitely many equations equivalent to this one. Any point lying on the line could be used to create an equation. However, since we are given this point, this one is easiest!
