Exercise 64 Page 28

Rewrite the numbers to be in decimal form.

-4.5, 1.75, sqrt(4), 14^1

Practice makes perfect
Consider the given set of numbers. {1.75,-4.5,sqrt(4),14^1} In order to compare them, we will rewrite them all to be in decimal form. The numbers -4.5 and 1.75 are already in decimal form, so we do not need to change these numbers at all. Let's start by calculating 14^1. 14^1= 14 Now, we can calculate sqrt(4). Notice that 4 is a perfect square.
sqrt(4)
sqrt(2* 2)
sqrt(2^2)
2
Finally, let's compare them. We can see that ordering from the least to the greatest gives us: {-4.5,1.75,2,14} ⇓ {-4.5, 1.75, sqrt(4), 14^1 }
