To split a number or expression into factors means to write it as a product. Take, for example, the number 60 and the expression 16x6.
6016x6=6⋅10=4⋅4⋅x2⋅x4
Sometimes, numbers and expressions can be split into factors in more ways than one. Both of the examples above can alternatively be split into factors as shown below.
6016x6=3⋅20=2⋅8⋅x3⋅x3
