An exponent is a number or expression written above a number indicating how many times the number is being multiplied by itself.
- ( 1/4)^4
- ( 1/4 * 1/4 * 1/4 * 1/4_(4times) ) We can see that the factor 14 is being multiplied by itself four times. - ( 1/4)^4 Note that the negative sign still stays in front of parentheses and is not affected by the exponent.
