Exercise 10 Page 205

Solve for the variable by using the Cross Products Property.

x = 3

Practice makes perfect
For the given ratios to be equivalent, we need them to be proportional. First we will write them as fractions and then we can set them equal to one another. Then we will have a proportion that we can solve for x. rc First Ratio: & 2:4 ⇒ 2/4 [0.8em] Second Ratio: & x:6 ⇒ x/6 [0.8em] Proportion: & 2/4=x/6 To solve the proportion, we have to isolate x on one side. Using the Multiplication Property of Equality, we will multiply both sides of the equation by 6. This will eliminate the denominator of the fraction and isolate x.
2/4=x/6
6 * 2/4=6 * x/6
6 * 2/4= x
12/4 = x
3 = x
x = 3
