We have been given a sentence and we need to translate it into an equation.

18 divided by a number s equals 3.

Every equation has an equals sign and values or expressions on either side of it. Key phrases, such as is, is equal to, and equals tell us about the placement of the equals sign.

18divided by a numbers equals 3. ⇕ 18 divided by a numbers = 3. On the left-hand side we have a key phrase: divided by. This phrase tell us the operations that will be used in our equation. Divided by indicates division. 18 divided by a numbers 18 ÷ s On the right-hand side, we only have a number 3. Putting these sides together, we have a complete equation. 18 ÷ s = 3
