After substituting 8 into the inequality and simplifying, we get - 1<- 4. By graphing - 1 and - 4 on a number line, we can determine if this is a true statement.

The further a number is to the right, the greater it is. Since - 1 is to the right of -4 we can conclude that - 1 is greater than - 4. -1 > -4 Therefore, the error is that we have drawn the incorrect conclusion. It should be that 8 is not a solution to the inequality.
