To solve an equation, we should first gather all of the variable terms on one side and all of the constant terms on the other side using the Properties of Equality.

3+5q=9+4q

LHS-4q=RHS-4q

3+5q-4q=9+4q-4q

Subtract terms

3+q=9

LHS-3=RHS-3

3+q-3=9-3

Subtract terms

q=6

The solution to the equation is q=6. We can check our solution by substituting it into the original equation.

3+5q=9+4q

q= 6

3+ 5( 6)? =9+4( 6)

Multiply

3+ 30? =9+24

Add terms

33=33 ✓

Since the left-hand side is equal to the right-hand side, our solution is correct.
