When calculating a probability, we are comparing the number of favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. To calculate the probability of obtaining a number less than 3 when rolling the number cube, we will use the Probability Formula. P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible OutcomesWe know that on the cube there are 6 numbers in total. This is the number of possible outcomes. Now we have to find the outcomes where the number rolled on a cube would be less than 3. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Out of these, there are 2 such outcomes. This is the number of favorable outcomes. Now we have enough information to calculate P(less than3).
P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes
P(less than3)=2/6
P(less than3)=1/3
The probability of obtaining a number less than 3 is 13, which can also be written as 1:3.
