Is there any hint in the diagram that tells you that the two lines really are parallel?

No, we cannot assume that the lines are parallel.

We have two lines, AB and GE, and we wish to know if they are parallel.

The lines are parallel if they are equidistant from each other at all points. We could establish this if the two lines were both perpendicular to a third line or the lines were marked as parallel. Note that such marks are not present and only one line is shown to cross these two line.

Since there are no parallel marks and they are not perpendicular to a third line, we cannot assume that the lines are parallel.
