What makes a sequence arithmetic?

Is It an Arithmetic Sequence? No.

Practice makes perfect

When a sequence is arithmetic, the difference between two consecutive terms is constant. Examining our sequence, we can see that this is not the case.

-5 -3 → -8 -4 → -12 -5 → -17 Note that the difference between terms is not constant. Therefore, the sequence is not arithmetic.
