To factor a perfect square trinomial, the first and last terms have to be perfect squares.
Is the Trinomial a Perfect Square? Yes.
Factored Expression: (a-11)^2
Is the first term a perfect square? | a^2= a^2 âś“ |
Is the last term a perfect square? | 121= 11^2 âś“ |
Is the middle term twice the product of 11 and a? | 22a=2* 11* a âś“ |
As we can see, the answer to all three questions is yes! Therefore, we can write the trinomial as the square of a binomial. Note there is a subtraction sign in the middle. a^2 - 22a + 121 ⇔ ( a- 11)^2
