Start by plotting the endpoints E and F.
To graph the line segment, we first need to plot the endpoints. We will plot them one at the time.
In an ( x, y) ordered pair, the first number shows the x-coordinate and the second number shows the y-coordinate.
To graph E( - 3, 5), we first find - 3 on the x-axis and make a mental note of this grid line. The x-coordinate - 3 tells us to move three units in the negative horizontal direction.
Next, we find 5 on the y-axis and follow this grid line until it collides with the grid line from our x-coordinate. The y-coordinate 5 tells us to move five units in the positive vertical direction.
The point E( - 3, 5) lies on the point at which these two grid lines intersect.
Once again we will first mark the x-coordinate and then the y-coordinate of the second point.
To plot F(4, - 3), we first find 4 on the x-axis and make a mental note of this grid line. The x-coordinate 4 tells us to move four units in the positive horizontal direction.
Next, we find - 3 on the y-axis and follow this grid line until it collides with the grid line from our x-coordinate. The y-coordinate - 3 tells us to move three units in the negative vertical direction.
The point F(4, - 3) lies on the point at which these two grid lines intersect.
Finally, to graph the line segment we will connect the two points with a straight line.
