Cost in a Box=2.50x +2.25 The cost of mailing a DVD in an envelope using Company B will be equal to the sum of 1.10 and the product of 8.5 multiplied by the weight of the DVD. Cost in a Envelope=8.50x +1.10 In both expressions, x represents the weight of the DVD. Now, we will equate both expressions and solve it to find the value of x. Let's use inverse operations to isolate the variable on one side of the equation.
8.5x+1.10=2.50x+2.25
Solve for x
8.5x+1.10-2.50x=2.50x+2.25-2.50x
6x+1.10=2.25
6x+1.10-1.10=2.25-1.10
6x=1.15
6x/6=1.15/6
6x/6=1.15/6
x=1.15/6
x=0.191666 ...
