Exercise 5 Page 288

Write the number representing the amount of rolled oats in the numerator and the amount of chopped peanuts in the denominator.

41 or 4:1

Practice makes perfect
There are many different ways to compare amounts or quantities. A ratio is a comparison of two quantities by division. For example, the ratio of a to b can be written in two different ways. a/b or a: b We want to find the ratio of rolled oats to chopped peanuts in the recipe. Rolled Oats:& 2 cups Chopped Peanuts:& 1/2 cup Now we can write the fraction that represents desired ratio. We will write the number representing the amount of rolled oats in the numerator and the amount of chopped peanuts in the denominator. l Rolled Oats→ Chopped Peanuts→ 2/1/2 Finally, we can simplify the fraction.
2/1/2
2*2/1
4/1
4:1
The ratio is 41 or 4:1.
