Consider the given box-and-wisker plot for the ages of the members of a backpacking expedition in the mountains.

In a box-and-whisker plot, each whisker represents 25 % of the data. The box represents 50 % of the data. With this in mind, we can state the following facts about the distribution of the data set.

• 25 % of the ages are between 18 and 23.
• 50 % of the ages are between 23 and 29.
• 25 % of the ages are between 29 and 30.
