Exercise 7 Page 90

Change 100 to 75 in the scenario worked out in the example solution.

5 computers

Practice makes perfect
Here we have been given a fully solved scenario and the number of computers we can choose from if we want an absolute deviation of $100. We are asked what if we wanted the absolute deviation to be only $75? We can use the same inequality presented in the example scenario, but change 100 to 75.

|x-664|≤ 100 → |x-664|≤ 75 We can then follow the same process with this new inequality. -75≤ x-664≤75 ⇒ 589≤ x≤739 With this new range of values the computers we would be willing to purchase are those costing $650, $660, $725, $670, and $650. Therefore, there are only 5 different computers we can choose.
