Exercise 5 Page 542

Use a dynamic geometry program such as Geogebra or a graphing calculator. Enter the points from the exercise and remember that the first value stands for the x-coordinate and the second one for the y-coordinate.

Lengths: 4.24 units
Angles: 90^(∘)

Practice makes perfect

We are given four points that we can enter into the program. A point consists of two coordinates, an x-coordinate and a y-coordinate. For example, the point A has an x-coordinate of -3 and a y-coordinate of 0. Let's enter these points into the software.

Now we can use the geometry software to form a polygon with the points and calculate the side lengths.

We received four equal sides approximately of length 4.24. Let's measure the angles.

All angles are equal 90^(∘), so they are right angles. Note that, since the sides are equal as well, the points form a square.
