Wilma is a Swedish student in science. She has never been a natural at math so she was a bit worried when she started high school.

Wilma is 18 years old and is in her second year of the science program at a Swedish High School. When she was about to start high school, she was nervous that she wouldn’t pass math.
“I was worried about the high level and also about the pace of the courses,especially since I had to put in a lot of time to achieve my goals during primary school,” says Wilma.
Mathematics is also extremely important for keeping up with several of the courses in the science program, such as physics.
“Physics is basically pure math that you apply to different things using lots of formulas. In chemistry, for example, you calculate a lot of different reaction formulas, concentrations, and similar things. Math and physics are interdependent.”
Going from elementary school math to a whole new level with a very fast pace was a concern for Wilma when she started high school. But when she started her first semester, math teacher Henrik Gyllensten told the class that the school has a Mathleaks subscription where students can access digital math courses. Technology to improve math skills

Wilma thinks that using Mathleaks has given her a completely different understanding of math.
“If you don’t really understand then it’s easy to fall behind – you can get stuck and maybe you feel like giving up. But the more you understand, the more fun math becomes!”
Today, Wilma feels confident with the level of her high school math and likes to challenge herself with more difficult tasks. Mathleaks acts as a digital tutor and Wilma likes that she can practice anywhere and anytime.
Mathematics is important for several career choices
Wilma is not yet sure which career path she will choose after high school. But she will definitely want to study further.
“I want to have as broad a foundation as possible, so that I have several options for the future. Therefore, it’s really important to have a good foundation in high school math,” she says.
Wilma believes that her math skills will be of great help in the future. One idea is to focus on an engineering program. Another is to study further to become a doctor or a paramedic.
“In engineering, it is important to be able to calculate things that are to be built,not only to create good constructions but also so that they are safe. There have been several examples throughout history when miscalculations in construction have led to major consequences. And a medical miscalculation can be life-changing for a patient who needs life-saving care.”
Wilma concludes, “Mathleaks has simply given me a completely different understanding of math problems.”
