Exercise 69 Page 93

How can we isolate x on the left-hand side?

x=5

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation, we have to isolate x on one side of the equation. By dividing both sides of the equation by -5, we can remove the coefficient from x.
-5x=-25
-5x/-5=-25/-5
x=25/5
x=5
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute x=5 into the original equation.
-5x=-25
-5( 5)? =-25
-25=-25
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that x=5 is the correct solution.
