Recall that consecutive interior angles are interior angles that lie on the same side of the transversal. From the diagram we see that on the left side, ∠ 1 and ∠ 4, as well as ∠ 5 and ∠6 are consecutive interior angles. They are formed by the lines l and m, and the transversal AC.

On the right side, ∠ 8 and ∠ 7, as well as ∠ 3 and ∠ 2 are consecutive interior angles. They are formed by the lines l and m, and the transversal DB.
