When calculating a probability, we are comparing the number of favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. To calculate the probability of rolling either 1 or 6 on a die, we will use the Probability Formula. P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes On the dice there are 6 numbers. This is the number of possible outcomes. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Furthermore, there are 2 numbers that are either equal to 1 or equal to 6. This is the number of favorable outcomes. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Now we have enough information to calculate P(1or6).
P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes
P(1or6)=2/6
P(1or6)=1/3
Convert to percent
P(1or6)=0.3
P(1or6)≈0.33
P(1or6)≈ 33 %
The probability of rolling either 1 or 6 on the die is 13 or about 33 %.
