Exercise 1 Page 86

Substitute the given point and slope into the slope-intercept form equation.

y=1.5x+5

Practice makes perfect
Equations in slope-intercept form follow a certain format. y=mx+ b

In this format, m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. The line has a slope of 1.5 which means that we can substitute m=1.5. y=1.5x+ b Since the x-coordinate of the given point equals 0, its y-coordinate 5 is the y-intercept b of the equation. Now that we have both the slope and the y-intercept, we can write the final equation. y=1.5x+ 5
