Substitute the given point and slope into the slope-intercept form of an equation.

Equations in slope-intercept form follow a certain format. y=mx+ b In this form, m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. The line has a slope of 2 which means that we can substitute m=2. y=2x+ b To write a complete equation for this line, we also need to determine the y-intercept b. We can do that by substituting the given point (2,4) into the equation and solving for b.

y=2x+b

x= 2, y= 4

4=2( 2)+b

Multiply

4=4+b

LHS-4=RHS-4

0=b

Rearrange equation

b= 0

Now that we have both slope and y-intercept we can write the final equation. y=2x+ 0 ⇔ y=2x
