Power Property of Equality

Raising each side of an equation to the same power yields an equivalent equation.

If a = b, then a^m = b^m.

Since the Power Property of Equality is an axiom, it is accepted as true without a proof. This property can be used when solving equations. Consider the following example. sqrt(x)&=4 (sqrt(x))^2&=4^2 x&=16 By squaring each side of the equation, the variable x was isolated and the solution of the equation was obtained.
