Perimeter

Perimeter measures the distance around the outside of a two-dimensional figure. The perimeter of a figure is calculated by adding all of its side lengths together. For example, a square with a side length of

4

meters has a perimeter of

16

meters because

4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16 .

If the figure is a circle or an ellipse, the perimeter is called the circumference of the figure.
