# Perimeter

Perimeter measures the distance around the outside of a two-dimensional figure. To determine perimeter, add the length of all the sides of the figure. For example, a square with side length $s=4$ m has a perimeter of $16$ meters because $4+ 4+ 4+ 4 = 16.$

If the figure is a circle or an ellipse the perimeter is called circumference.
