5. Determine Outcomes of Compound Events
Sign In
The sample space of an experiment is the set of all possible outcomes.
Example Table:
Outcomes | 1 | 2 | 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Red | Red, 1 | Red, 2 | Red, 3 |
Blue | Blue, 1 | Blue, 2 | Blue, 3 |
Green | Green, 1 | Green, 2 | Green, 3 |
To make the table, we will list the outcomes of the first spin in the left column and the outcomes of the second spin in the top row.
Outcomes | 1 | 2 | 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Red | Red, 1 | Red, 2 | Red, 3 |
Blue | Blue, 1 | Blue, 2 | Blue, 3 |
Green | Green, 1 | Green, 2 | Green, 3 |
Keep in mind that there are several ways to make a table. The part that matters most is that the sample space ends up with all of the possible combinations.
