Exercise 6 Page 413

Recall the formula for the area of a circle.

226.865m^2

Practice makes perfect

We want to find the area of the circle with radius equal to 8.5 meters. Let's start by drawing the circle!

The area of a circle with radius r is calculated using the formula below. A=π r^2 From the figure, we know that the radius of the circle is 8.5m. By substituting 8.5 for r in the formula, we can calculate A. We will use π=3.14 for the calculations.
A=Ď€ r^2
A=Ď€( 8.5)^2
A=Ď€(72.25)
A=226.865
The area of the circle is approximately 226.865m^2.
