Exercise 33 Page 192

Rewrite a fraction as a percent. To do this, find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

52 %

Practice makes perfect
Fractions and percents are ways to show parts of a whole. We want to tell which number is greater. 1/2, 52 % To do this, we will write a fraction as a percent. To write a fraction as a percent, we first find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. 1/2=x/100 We multiply 2 by 50 to get 100, so we will also multiply 1 by 50 to get an equivalent fraction.
1/2
We found that 12 and 50100 are equivalent fractions. Now we can write the new fraction as a percent by looking at the numerator and adding a percent symbol. 1/2=50/100= 50 % Since 52 is greater than 50, 52 % is greater than 50 %. This means that 52 % is greater than 12.
