The law of detachment says that if the hypothesis of a true conditional statement is true, then the conclusion is also true.
If you study for a test, then you will get an A.
If you train for a race, then you will win first place.
If& you study for a test, then& you will get an A. If the law of detachment was true for this statement, you would be guaranteed an A if you study. However, even though you study for a test it does not guarantee that you will get an A. A similar statement can be formed. If& you train for a race , then& you will win first place. While you may train for a race, another person may still take first place.
