Exercise 3 Page 164

How can the rate at which we drive be expressed?

≈ 8.77 hours

Practice makes perfect
The rate at which we drive is commonly expressed as distance divided by time. Rate=Distance/TimeWe are told that we drive 236 miles in 4.6 hours. Let's use this to find the rate. Rate=236/4.6 Thus, the rate is 2364.6. Next we want to know how long time it will take to to travel 450 miles at this rate. Let's once more use the rate formula.
Rate=Distance/Time
236/4.6=450/Time
Solve for Time
236=2070/Time
236(Time)=2070
Time=8.771186...
Time≈ 8.77
It will take approximately 8.77 hours to drive 450 miles.
