Exercise 2 Page 415

Use long division to convert a fraction into a decimal.

6.4

Practice makes perfect
We are given the following mixed number, which we want to fraction into a decimal. To do so we will divide the numerator by the denominator.

6 2/5 We can place the whole number to the side for now, as it will not affect the conversion. As we continue past the decimal point of the dividend, remember to bring it up in our answer at the same place. Let's follow these steps with the given fraction.

By following the steps we find that 25 converted to a decimal is 0.4. Now we can add the whole number 6 back in. Therefore, 6 25 converted to a decimal is 6.4.
