Exercise 110 Page 445

What information does a slope-intercept form equation give you?

Practice makes perfect
Equations written in slope-intercept form follow a specific format. y= mx+ b In this form, m represents the slope of the line and b represents the y-intercept. Below, we highlight the slope m and y-intercept b of the given equation.

y= 1.5x+ 0 The slope is 1.5. The y-intercept is 0, so the graph crosses the y-axis at the point (0, 0).

Graphing the Equation

Let's rewrite the slope as a fraction.
m = 1.5
m = 2* 1.5/2
m = 3/2
A slope of 1.5 = 32 means that for every 2 unit we move in the positive horizontal direction, we move 3 units in the positive vertical direction. m= 3/2 ⇔ rise/run=3/2 To graph the equation, plot the y-intercept and then use the slope to find another point on the line.
