Subtract terms

Rearrange equation

a=- 16/2

Calculate quotient

a=-8

The solution to the equation is a=- 8. We can check our solution by substituting it into the original equation.

38=2a+54

a= - 8

38? =2( -8)+54

a(- b)=- a * b

38? =-2*8+54

38? =-16+54

Add terms

38=38

Since the left-hand side is equal to the right-hand side, our solution is correct.
