Exercise 1 Page 963

130

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we want to find 26 % of 500. Therefore, we have that p= 26 and b= 500.
a/b=p/100
a/500=26/100
a/500=13/50
a=13/50* 500
Evaluate right-hand side
a=13* 500/50
a=13*500/50
a=13* 10
a=130
This means that 130 is 26 % of 500.
