Suppose we want to make a scale drawing of a banner we saw in a mall. To choose an appropriate scale we can follow the steps below.
  1. First, we compare the space that the original image occupies to the amount of space that is available for the scale drawing. This gives us a factor.
  2. Then, we determine the amount of detail that we want the scale drawing to have. From this, we get a second factor.

Using the two factors found, we can choose an appropriate scale for our drawing. The steps above can be used whenever we need to make a scale model or drawing.
