Exercise 30 Page 421

Find the product of the common prime factors.

6(x+20)

Practice makes perfect
James has $120 in his savings and for 6 months he plans to save $x each month. As a result, his savings after 6 months will be equal to $6x + $120. We want to factor this expression. To do so, we will use the Distributive Property in reverse. First, we have to find the greatest common factor (GCF) between the terms. 6x&= 2 * 3 * x 120&= 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 5In this case, the GCF is the product of the common prime factors. Let's find this product. 2 * 3 = 6 Let's factor out the GCF for our expression.
6x+120
6 * x+120
6 * x + 6 *20
6(x+20)
