Exercise 101 Page 289

How do you calculate 13 of $80?

$53.3

Practice makes perfect

In order to find the discounted price of the purse, we need to subtract the discount in dollars from the original price. Original price- Discount= New priceFirst, we have to find the cost subtracted by the discount, which is 13 of $80. We can find the value of the discount by multiplying the original price by the discount rate.

1/3* $80
$ 80/3
$ 26.6

Finally, by subtracting $2.48 from $45, we get the new price including the discount. $80- $26.6= $ 53.3
