Before calculating the difference, we need to convert inches to feet by diving the value in inches by 12.

Now that we have all the values in feet, we can calculate the difference. Change in y = 8-1.5= 6.5 To find the change in x, we will draw a sketch of the slide. Let's do it!

Note that the change in x will be the difference between 12 feet and the sum of the flat portions of the slide. Change in x = 12-(1+1)= 10 Finally, we can substitute these values into the formula for the slope.

m= 0.65

The slope of the main portion of the slide is equal to 0.65.

We can describe the change in the slope when the bottom of the slide is only 12 inches above the ground.
