Practice makes perfect
The greatest common factor (GCF) is the greatest number that is a factor of two or more numbers. The first step for finding a GCF is to break down each number into its factors. We will mark all of the factors that are common between the given numbers.
Given number Factors
8 1, 2, 4, 8
36 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36

The common factors are 1, 2, and 4. The greatest of these common factors is 4. This means that the GCF of 8 and 36 is 4.
