Practice makes perfect
To translate a figure means we are moving it. To do that, place a point in each corner of the figure you want to move. We see an example below.


To translate it somewhere, we have to move each point the same amount of steps in the vertical and horizontal directions. Otherwise, the shape of the translated figure would change. Below, we have translated our figure horizontally by 5 steps in the negative direction and vertically by 1 step in the positive direction.
