Exercise 15 Page 518

Practice makes perfect
a From the exercise, we know that two bars that are next to each other, are parallel. Therefore, we know the following.
By the Transitive Property of Parallel lines, we know that if two lines are parallel to the same line, then they are parallel to each other. Since we have a∥ b, b∥ c, c∥ d, d∥ e, e ∥ f, we can conclude that all of the lines are parallel and thus a∥ f.
b The line can be viewed as a transversal that cuts two parallel lines, namely the shortest and longest bars.

Using the Corresponding Angles Theorem, we can conclude that ∠ 1 ≅ ∠ 2 and therefore m∠ 2=58^(∘).
