Exercise 3 Page 507

Note that the lines cut by the transversal are parallel.

m∠ 1=117^(∘) (Vertical Angles Congruence Theorem)
m∠ 2=117^(∘) (Corresponding Angles Theorem)

Practice makes perfect

To find m∠ 1, we can use the fact that 117^(∘) and ∠ 1 are vertical angles. By the Vertical Angles Congruence Theorem, they are congruent and therefore have the same measure. m∠ 1=117^(∘) To find m∠ 2, we can either use the fact that ∠ 1 and ∠ 2 are corresponding angles, or that 117^(∘) and ∠ 2 are alternate exterior angles. By the Corresponding Angles Theorem and the Alternate Exterior Angles Theorem, the pair of angles will be congruent because the lines that are cut by the transversal are parallel. m∠ 2=117^(∘)
