Draw a random figure to visualize the exercise. Then place a center point outside the figure and draw an image of the figure with the given scale factor.

The dilated figure is closer to the center.

Practice makes perfect

To visualize the exercise, we can draw an example figure. Let it be a square.

We know that the center of dilation is outside the figure, so let's place a point outside the figure and call it C.

The given scale factor is k=0.1. Therefore, the dilated figure will be 10 times smaller than the original figure. Keep in mind that both the dilated figure and the original figure will have the same center.

We can see that the image after the dilation is much closer to the center than the original figure.
