Exercise 1 Page 562

11/17

Practice makes perfect
When calculating probability, we are comparing the number of favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. To calculate the probability that a randomly drawn marble is not yellow we will use the Probability Formula. P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes In the bag, there is a total of 8 green, 4 blue, 12 yellow, and 10 red marbles. The sum of these values is the number of possible outcomes. 8+4+12+10= 34 marbles Out of these, 22 are not yellow, which is the number of favorable outcomes. Now we have enough information to calculate P(not yellow marble).
P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes
P(not yellow marble)=22/34
P(not yellow marble)=11/17
The probability of choosing a marble that is not yellow is 1117, which can also be written as 11:17.
