Exercise 3 Page 759

Apply inverse operations to isolate y.

B

Practice makes perfect
Rewriting any linear equation in the slope-intercept form requires us to isolate the y-variable. To do this, we will use the Properties of Equality to apply inverse operations on the equation. Remember, only like terms can be combined.
5x-7y=25
- 7y=25-5x
y=25/- 7-5x/- 7
y=- 25/7-(- 5x/7)
y=- 25/7+5x/7
y=5x/7-25/7
y=5/7x-25/7
This result corresponds to answer B.
