About 2 %

Practice makes perfect
To determine the percent change we can use the following formula. lPercent Change =Amount of increase or decrease/Original amount From the given times, we can see that the athlete ran faster this year. For this reason, we are finding a percent decrease. To do this, we have to subtract the new time from the original time. ccc & 6min & 13 s - & 6min & 5 s [0.5em] [-0.9em] & & 8 s To use the formula, we need the original time in seconds as well. Since 1 minute equals 60 seconds, the athlete ran for 373 seconds. 6 minutes 13 seconds: 6 * 60+13= 373 seconds Now we can use the formula.
Percent Change=Amount of decrease/Original amount
Percent Change=8/373
Percent Change=0.02144...
Percent Change ≈ 0.02
Percent Change ≈ 2 %
The runner's time decreased by roughly 2 %.
