We are asked to compare two sets of data by comparing their mean and range. Let's find these quantities for each set of data.

Set E

Let's look at the set of data. 113 183 479 120 117 To find the range of the set we need to find the difference of the greatest value and the least value. We can see that the greatest value in the set is 479, and the least value is 113. Range: 479 - 113= 366 The range is 366. We can see that there are 5 values in the set. To find the mean, we will add all the values and divide the sum by 5. Let's do it! Mean:113 + 183 +479 +120 + 117/5 = 202.4 Therefore, the mean is 202.4.

Set F

Now let's look at the other set of data. 145 129 153 135 142 To find the range of the set we need to find the difference of the greatest value and the least value. We can see that the greatest value in the set is 153, and the least is 129. Range: 153 - 129= 24 The range is 24. Let's find the mean! Mean:145+ 129 +153 +135+ 142/5 = 140.8 Therefore, the mean is 140.8.

Comparing the Sets

We can see that Set E has a range of 366 and a mean of 202.4. Set F has a range of 24 and a mean of 140.8. Therefore, Set E has greater mean and range than Set F.
