$(a \pm b)^{2} = a^{2} \pm 2 a b + b^{2}$

Squares of binomials can be rewritten as trinomials by multiplying the parentheses.

(a + b)^{2} = a^{2} + 2 a b + b^{2} (a - b)^{2} = a^{2} - 2 a b + b^{2}
